So you’ve decided to buy a home…and you have a home to sell. Luckily, you are not the first person to go through this! Check out these ideas for how to handle your buying+selling situation!
Step One: Let’s List!
To buy first or to list first? This is probably the first question on your mind right now, and don’t you need somewhere to go before you get ready to leave? Not necessarily. With today’s seller’s market and frequent multi-offer situations, sellers aren’t looking for home sale contingencies (that’s the bit of a contract saying that you need to sell your old home so that you have the funds to buy your new home) when they have other options. Your best bet? Get started getting your own home ready to list for sale. You can (and should!) start getting a feel for where you might want to go in terms of location, price, and space, but Priority #1 is getting your own home market-ready.
I’m Under Contract…Where Do I Go Now?
First off, congratulations on finding a buyer and going under contract – that’s great! Ideally, your dream home is on the market and now is the time to swoop in with your offer. Worried about a gap in housing? Your realtor can connect you with local short-term rental options to help bridge the time between moving out and moving in. Not finding the perfect house quite yet? Often times short-term leases offer extension options if you need more time.
